Fall Fitness Testing

Hello everyone! We wanted to take a minute to explain how we are doing our fitness testing this year! The MKG/HBB physical education department conducts the national Fitnessgram assessment with our 3rd through 5th grade students.  This year, each of the three grades will complete the PACER test, a cardiovascular test requiring the students to run 15 meter sprints at an increasing pace until they decide to stop or can longer make the distance in the allotted time.  Each grade will then focus on one more test each.  The fifth grade students will focus on increasing their flexibility through the sit and reach test, measuring how far forward they can extend from an upright sitting position.  The fourth grade students will focus on the push up test measuring their muscular strength by completing as many push ups as possible to a cadence with correct form.  The third grade students will focus on the curl up test measuring their muscular endurance by completing as many curl ups as possible to a cadence with correct form.

It is important to note that these scores are compared to a national standard and are simply informative and do not impact your child’s physical education grade.  Each student will receive a paper explaining their score and how they compare to the national standard for each completed test, both in the fall and the spring.  Please feel free to comment or email with any questions you may have about the testing and look for a paper to be coming home with your student within the next few weeks.

Thanks for checking in!
