Ever wonder how we decide what to teach in Phys Ed? Well, technically we don’t.
The national Society Of Health And Physical Educators, or SHAPE America, sets the standard for what a quality physical education consists of. Just like the Common Core you see in the classroom, a quality physical education program is based on state or national standards & grade level outcomes. This helps us determine what skills, knowledge, & behaviors are expected at every grade level, as well as which activities will best prepare students to attain and demonstrate those standards.
Here at the Mary K. Goode and Henry B. Burkand we are proud of the quality curriculum we provide students with, as we constantly move toward our goal of developing “physically literate individuals“. The physically literate individual, simply stated, is someone that has developed the knowledge, skills and confidence to enjoy a lifetime of healthful physical activity.
Take a look at some of our wonderful students demonstrating how they meet state & national standards every day in PE.
